The way a person dresses ultimately says a lot about who he is. If you take some time and thought into what you are clothing yourself with people will take notice. So have some pride and dress the part.
Once upon a time it was acceptable to wear skater shoes, baggy jeans and a ratty t-shirt. Now you don't need to dress to the nines every day of the week, but trading up those sweatpants and flipflops for a nice pair of chinos and some stylish shoes WILL take you from the everyday run of the mill student to the big man on campus!
And for those of you who won't have your nose buried in a book this semester there is still something here for you that will help you evolve your wardrobe this fall.
I'm here to give you the basics every man needs in their closet to take you from those teenage days long gone to a well dressed gentlemen who means business!
#1 - Tailored (or slim-fitted) pair of Chinos
Banana Republic has many options for good quality chinos but is a bit on the pricier side for the average student.
H&M has a variety of for Chino styles in many different colours, from a dressier version to a more casual look. And luckily these stylish options come with a much more affordable price tag.
#2 Slim fitting shirt
MEXX has many options when it comes to fitted shirts for men. Whether you're looking for t-shirts or button-up shirts check this place out! Some of the best shirts I own are from MEXX. Now the trick to this store is becoming a MEXX Connect Member and subscribing to their email list. You will get great deals on quality clothes constantly!!
#3 Blazer
There are many options out there for a casual blazer. And prices range from under $100 to prices you just don't want to know. But for those of you looking for an affordable style there are a variety of choices at stores such as Zara, H&M or MEXX.
#4 Sweater or Cardigan
There are many options when it comes to sweaters. The main goal here is layering. Try to find something that can be layered with other items in your closet. As the the Fall/Winter styles are coming out in full force in stores like H&M, Zara and Simons there are many stores you can find a great sweater or cardigan. So go out there and shop around!
#5 Stylish School bag
There are many options a man can choose from to trade in his Tracker backpack for a stylish school bag that will have people noticing.
Everlane is a relatively new company that is purely online. I have found this company to be have excellently quality products and now that they ship to Canada so us folks in the north can enjoy them too!
ASOS, a company I have found just recently, (thanks to my lovely wife) is a very exciting find! They have a variety of items including stylish bags for school that are well-priced and will have people talking.
#6 Manly Accessories
One way you can spice up your style this Fall is by accessorizing. Now I know you may be thinking only girls should be accessorizing. But it is very possible to find some manly accessories, like a stylish watch or some boss sunglasses, that will give you that little extra this year!
Guess Casual from Watch It!
Now although you can find these items at somewhat cheaper prices it may not be possible to go out and completely re-vamp your wardrobe all at once. As a fellow student and a man starting a new family I definitely understand that! But you'd be surprised that month by month as you make a purchase here and there you will have completely updated your wardrobe in no time!
I hope these basics will help you as you update your wardrobe this semester and remember as your personal style evolves, own it, so you are one of a kind! Please comment below with your newly found purchases this Fall as I would love to see them.
Good luck with your back to school shopping and may you have a much stylish school year!
Stay Classy Gentlemen,
Harley
